| Goods worth Rs 75 lakh gutted in Sitabuldi |

by Staff Reporter A major fire broke out at two garment shops on busy Sitabuldi road during wee hours of Sunday gutting goods worth over Rs 75 lakh. Police said the public alerted the Fire Brigade after noticing smoke billowing out from one of the shop, located adjoining Bata’s Showroom, which sells readymade garments. Sources said that the fire started due to electric shot circuit at around 1.30 am at Quality Clothes Stores owned by Jagdish Waswani. As the clothes were combustible, it soon spread in the shop and also engulfed the adjacent Selection House, another garment shop owned by Mahendra Kumar Jain (Devadiya). Though 11 fire tenders were pressed into service to contain the fire, the goods including readymade garments, were gutted completely. It took over 5 hours for firemen to control the inferno. In the wake of terrorist
attack, increased activity of anti-social elements and underworld, the Maharashtra Government is willing to constitute a Special Security Corporation to provide special security to the State Government and Central Government offices, multiplexes, malls, club houses, public undertakings, financial and
religious institutions, special economic zones, private ports and jetties, vital installations, medical institutions, dams and expressway. Government will require Rs 25 crore for formation of the corporation, payment and training of the force.
