Randhawa is Indian coach

FORMER India skipper Inderjeet Singh Randhawa has been appointed as coach of the senior Indian handball men’s team for the Asian Games to be held in China later in this year. Sports Officer with the Raisoni Group of Institutions, Randhawa has done the state proud by becoming the first Indian handball men’s team coach from Maharashtra.

Nagpur boys give thunderous performance, enter semis

THEIR moral seemingly boosted, city lads gave a thunderous performance to beat rivals Mumbai South East (64-50) and booked their semi-final berth of the Mayor’s Cup Junior Inter-district Basketball Championship in style. The Nagpur girls too entered the semis with a thumping win over Nashik (36-5). The meet is being jointly organised by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) at Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana (SNG) courts under the auspices of Maharashtra State Basketball Association (MSBA).

State baseball meet runs into controversy

THE 2nd Maharashtra State Senior Baseball Championship for men and women organised by Nagpur District Baseball Association (Khole faction) ran into rough weather even before the first ball is pitched with Jaikumar Ramteke claiming that the association formed by Raju Khole is illegal. Ramteke’s claims hold weight as Amateur Baseball Federation of India secretary PC Bharadwaj too has termed Khole’s body as illegal.

Lakudkar wins rapid chess title

Unbeaten Shubham Lakudkar scored seven points in seven rounds to emerge champion in the 4th Rapid Chess tournament, organised by Nagpur Chess Academy. Total 75 players took part in the tournament of which 12 were rated.

SARASWATI Vidyalaya, Kamptee stunned Ramesh Chandak High School 1-0 to dent their hopes of reaching the pre-quarter-final of the 7th all India Dr B R Ambedkar inter-school hockey tournament. The tournament is being organised by Maharashtra Officers’ Forum at Divisional Sports Association (DSA) Central Railway Sports ground under the aegis of Vidarbha Hockey Association. In the other matches of the day, SFS opened their account with a 2-0 win over Swaminarayan High School to earn three points from Pool A while Modern High School, Koradi pipped Dinanath High School 1-0 to open their account on a winning note.
