Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on Friday issued notices to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) in the matter of levy of 10 times Octroi cess on import of gold coins within city limits. Justice Bhushan Dharmadhikari while hearing a petition filed by Punjab National Bank, Kingsway branch, issued the notice.

Bird watchers witness cattle egret gulping sun bird at TATR

A peculiar phenomenon was noticed by the city’s group of bird watchers at a water hole in Kolsa Forest Range situated in Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) recently, wherein a cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis) swallowing a sun bird.

GRP zeroes in on bag lifters within 24-hrs

Ganga Lahari is one of the prominent poetic works by a great poet Panditraj Jagannath. The scholastic work shows wisdom, philosophy and depth of imagination of Jagannath Pandit, said noted scholar Wasudeo Chorghade while delivering a lecture on Ganga Lahari, organised by Sanskrit Bhasha Pracharini Sabha, on Thursday. On the auspicious occasion of Ganga Dashahara Parva, Sanskrit Bhasha Pracharini Sabha organised the lecture on Ganga Lahari in the memory of Dr R J Kalamkar, former Vice President of Sanskrit Bhasha Pracharini Sabha at its premises on West High Court Road. Sanskrit Scholar Dr N R Waradpande presided over the programme.

‘Magic of Night Sky’ helps understand universe

“Though people think Sun as the only big star, there are number of bigger stars than Sun in the Galaxy. The Sun we see is one amongst the 100 billion stars in our galaxy and our galaxy is one of the billions of galaxies in the universe. Therefore, a human on the earth has number of limitations to explore the entire universe.” This message is given by Raman Science Centre and Planetarium through its new planetarium programme ‘Magic of the Night Sky’ that was inaugurated on Thursday. The stars in Night Sky not only gives the idea about 27 divisions of sky but also the positioning of stars in the sky helps a person to locate the directions, the show says.

Third seed Shubham Lakudkar boys U-15 group and top seed Soumya Shrivastava from the girls U-15 group emerged champions in the 40th Vidarbha Sub-Junior Chess Championship which concluded at the Pandit Bachchraj Vyas Vidyalaya near Medical College on Sunday evening. Lakudkar defeated Sangeet Khule (6 pts) in the 9th and final round on the third board to finish with a tally of 7.5 points as against Sangeet Khule’s six.
