Theft, loot incidents on rise in Capital City
Sep. 9th, 2008

RAIPUR: THERE was a spate of loot, theft and pick pocket incidents in the State Capital during the past 24 hours. At least three such incidents were reported during the past 24 hours.

According to information, the incident of loot took place in a flat of Maruti Enclave at Tatibandh between 11 to 11.30 pm. Two unidentified youths threatened Geetanjali Dhar, wife of a banker Vikashchandra with a knife. They then decamped with the gold jewellery of victim woman worth Rs 38,000 that comprised a gold ring, pair of earrings, one gold chain with a pendant and gold bangles, all weighing around 4 tolas. At the time of incident, Geetanjali was alone in the house. The accused youths managed to move inside the victim’s house by convincing her that they represented a reputed financial institution and wanted to provide an attractive fixed deposit scheme. To this, Geetanjali opened the door for the youths without knowing their evil intentions. The accused youths earlier had tried to gain entry into the house of one Harjeet Singh, residing on the top floor of Maruti Enclave, with similar modus operandi. But the youths were chased out by Harjeet. A terrified Geetanjali told her neighbours about the incident and later lodged a complaint with Amanaka police station in the afternoon hours. An offence under Section 392 was registered against the accused youths. In another incident, an elderly pilgrim from Tamil Nadu was relieved of his wallet containing cash Rs 6400 by two persons including an auto-rickshaw driver while he was at Pandri Bus stand to catch a bus for Rajim on Monday noon. The victim pilgrim was identified as P Vasudev Aiyyer (55), a native of Tsunami camp Ward in village Trivena of Nagpatnam district in Tamil Nadu. The incident occurred at around 10.30 am, when Vasudev reached Pandri bus stand. Suddenly, an unidentified man pushed him from behind following which he fell on the ground. During this, the unidentified man managed to show his crafty work of pick-pocketing. By the time Vasudev realised that his wallet was missing, the unidentified man boarded an auto-rickshaw (CG-04 T-1779) and disappeared into thin air. A pained Vasudev later reached Civil Lines police station and lodged a complaint whereupon an offence under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered. In third incident, some unidentified thieves broke into vacant house of a doctor in Kabir Nagar and decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 80,000 on Sunday night. The incident took place when the complainant doctor Yashwant Kumar Dewangan (38) along with his wife had gone to Mahoba Bazaar for purchasing vegetables and daily need items. Thieves broke open the house’s front door lock and then opened the steel almirah by bending door with some heavy tool, before stealing the valuables containing cash Rs 1000, gold jewelleries and mobile phones. The ill-fated doctor discovered the break-in when he returned home around 8 pm and informed the Amanaka police. The thieves left behind very few clues. Sleuths of Central Crime Branch (CCB) were also summoned but they couldn’t provide any leads. Meanwhile, an offence under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) have been registered.
