India has got its legs tied: RSS chief
Sep. 9th, 2008
NAGPUR: DUBBING the waiver from Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) to India as ‘losing independence’, K S Sudarshan, Sarsanghchalak of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), said, the ‘nation will face its consequences’.
Sudarshan was talking to reporters on Monday after inaugurating the new building of Department of Management Technology of Shri Ramdeobaba Kamla Nehru Engineering College, here. His statement has come at a time when Congress, which leads the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), is dubbing NSG waiver as a major victory. Though the Congress is trumpeting it as end to the country’s 34-year-old isolation in the global nuclear market, Bharatiya Janata Party as well as Communist Party of India (Marxist) have both called it ‘undermining of sovereignty’ and ‘another surrender’ respectively.
Rubbishing the Congress’ claims of nuclear independence, the RSS chief said that the Indo-US nuclear deal would lead to a situation when India would have to ask to other countries whether to conduct nuclear test or not. “For the things that we were doing so far voluntarily, we will have to seek permission of others”, he said. In fact, India has got its legs tied now.
Explaining another implication of the Indo-US nuclear deal, Sudarshan said that as per the provisions, the national law of the country that had entered the deal would be applicable. However, in absence of such law, the Hyde Act of the US would regulate the affairs. This did not mean independence, he added.
Reminding that the nation’s first Prime Minister Pt Jawaharlal Nehru had mentioned about ‘tryst with destiny’ in his famous speech, RSS chief said that the nation was still facing consequences of the same. “This time, it is another ‘tryst with destiny’ and the country will face its consequences”, he said.
